Discover Sauvignon Blanc Wines
Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine grape type best known for producing dry white wines. Its taste distinguishes it from most other white wine grape types, making it light and pleasant.
The most frequent Sauvignon Blanc taste notes are tropical, tree, and citrus fruit. When the wine originates from a colder region, subtleties of dates, papaya, melon, and many aromas of herbs or dry underbrush are more prominent. You may detect pieces of English pudding, custard, and vanilla if you're exposed to oak. While it is perhaps best recognized for being the main white wine grape type in the Bordeaux area of France and the Loire Valley, sensuous Sauvignon blancs are also produced in New World wine growing locations like as Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley in California. In addition, Sauvignon Blanc is renowned for being part of the mix that produces the sweet dessert wine known as Sauternes in Bordeaux.
This grape variety thrives in both cold and warm regions and a wide range of soil types. As a result, it's a little more complicated. In New Zealand, for example, the kind of soil on which Sauvignon Blanc is produced has a significant impact.
About the Producer: Kim Crawford
Kim Crawford is one of New Zealand's most recognized wine producers worldwide. Based in Marlborough, the company produces a wide range of wines from different regions of New Zealand. Kim Crawford's most famous wine is Sauvignon Blanc, which is the most popular New Zealand wine sold in the United States. Kim Crawford was launched by the namesake Crawford in 1996 in Oakland, but moved to a modern winery in Marlborough in 2000. In 2003, Crawford sold the brand to Canadian company Vincor - in the same year, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was first listed once in Spectator 100 Best Wines (has been included several times since then). The following year, Vincor was acquired by Constellation Brands, the current owner of the label, Kim Crawford. Kim Crawford and his wife Erica now own Loveblock, also in Marlborough. While the vast majority of fruit comes from Marlborough, the South Island's offshore region, Kim Crawford also buys fruit from elsewhere in the country, including Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Canterbury and Central Otago. There are two different ranges of wines: the flagship range and the Small Parcelas range, which is produced in the best vineyards and only in the best years. Sauvignon Blanc is Kim Crawford's most popular variety, but the wines are also made from Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. In fact, Kim Crawford was one of the first New Zealand producers to make uncoated chardonnay.
