Tequila

Tequila is a distilled spirit made primarily from the blue agave plant (Agave tequilana), predominantly produced in the Jalisco region of Mexico, along with some areas in Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. This unique spirit undergoes a meticulous distillation process, typically involving double distillation in pot stills or column stills. Tequila is categorized into several types based on its aging process: Blanco (unaged or aged less than 2 months), Reposado (aged between 2 months and 1 year), Añejo (aged between 1 and 3 years), and Extra Añejo (aged over 3 years). Each type offers distinct flavor profiles ranging from fresh and herbal to rich and complex.

The flavor and aroma of tequila vary significantly across its categories. Blanco tequilas are known for their crisp texture with fresh citrus notes, peppery hints, and agave sweetness. Reposado tequilas present a softer profile with vanilla and caramel undertones derived from oak aging. Añejo varieties boast richer flavors such as chocolate, coffee, and dried fruit alongside pronounced oak influence. Extra Añejo tequilas deliver complex layers of deep wood characteristics combined with smoothness.
