Moonshine

Moonshine is an unaged distilled spirit traditionally made from a base of corn, sugar, malted barley, rye, or other grains. This spirit is typically produced in small batches using pot stills or column stills, resulting in a product that often showcases sweet corn notes and a grainy character. While it is generally unaged, some variations may undergo brief aging in barrels. The flavor profile can range from fruity or floral to having a raw alcohol bite with hints of sweetness.

The texture of moonshine varies widely; it can be smooth and velvety or harsh depending on the distillation process and ingredients used. Primarily associated with the Appalachian region of the United States, moonshine has also found its way into various rural areas globally. It serves as a versatile base for cocktails such as Moonshine Mojitos and Apple Pie Moonshine cocktails, making it popular among mixologists looking to create unique drinks that highlight its distinctive characteristics.
