Producer Notes: Wyoming Whiskey
Wyoming Whiskey is a premium spirits producer based in Kirby, Wyoming. The company was founded in 2009 by Brad and Kate Mead, who were inspired by the state’s rich history of whiskey-making. The Meads set out to create a whiskey that would reflect the rugged and independent spirit of Wyoming, using only the finest ingredients and traditional distilling methods.
Wyoming Whiskey’s flagship product is their Small Batch Bourbon, which is made from a mash bill of corn, wheat, and malted barley. The whiskey is aged for a minimum of five years in new, charred American oak barrels, giving it a rich, complex flavor profile with notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice. The Small Batch Bourbon has won numerous awards, including a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
In addition to their Small Batch Bourbon, Wyoming Whiskey also produces a Single Barrel Bourbon, which is hand-selected by the distillery’s master blender and bottled at cask strength. The Single Barrel Bourbon is a limited edition release, with each bottle individually numbered and signed by the master blender.
Wyoming Whiskey also produces a limited edition Outryder Straight American Whiskey, which is made from a blend of bourbon and rye whiskeys. The Outryder is aged for a minimum of five years in new, charred American oak barrels, giving it a bold, spicy flavor with notes of cinnamon, clove, and black pepper.
Overall, Wyoming Whiskey is a small but highly respected producer of premium spirits, with a focus on quality, craftsmanship, and tradition. Their products are available in select markets across the United States, and are highly sought after by whiskey enthusiasts and collectors alike.

American Whiskey is a distinct category of distilled spirits primarily made from grains such as corn, rye, barley, and wheat. This spirit is characterized by its unique distillation methods—either pot still or column still—and is aged in new charred oak barrels. The aging process varies by type; for instance, straight whiskey must be aged for a minimum of two years. The flavor profiles differ significantly among styles: Bourbon offers sweet notes of caramel and vanilla with hints of spice, while Rye Whiskey presents a spicier character with peppery undertones and citrus hints.
The texture of American Whiskey can range from smooth to rich, depending on the specific style being enjoyed. Regions like Kentucky are renowned for Bourbon production, while Tennessee is known for its mellow Tennessee Whiskey that often undergoes charcoal filtering. Commonly used in classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned and Manhattan, American Whiskey can also be savored neat or on the rocks. Understanding terms like mash bill and proof further enhances appreciation for this versatile spirit.
