The Prisoner Red Blend 750ml - Item Code: 04647

Discover The Prisoner Red Blend 750ml:

Dark red, almost pomegranate red with bright red on the edge. Clean cherry and cedar on the nose with touches of dried rose petals and sweet oak. Nice entrance that leads to a medium fat and spicy palate. The finish is dominated by figs and blackcurrant with a wide range of soft and well integrated tannins. The Prisoner Wine Company purchases grapes from over 100 vineyards in California’s top wine regions, working with phenomenal producers seeking to produce unique varietals. Chrissy Wittmann and his winemaking team work with this family of winemakers, visiting each vineyard throughout the year to carefully evaluate the style and quality of each blend to make the best wine from each variety.

Some of California’s largest wines are a blend of different red grape varieties. The most successful blends follow the recipes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Bordeaux, but with an even greater intensity. These wines are usually perfumed and strong with a lot of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and vanilla flavor.

The first Prisoner Wine Company wine with the same name was inspired by drunken “mixed black” wines made by Italian emigrants who originally settled in the Napa Valley. Since its launch, The Prisoner was soon recognized as one of the most innovative wines in the Napa Valley, which led to the renaissance of Californian red blends and became an “iconic wine”. Now, in addition to the white blend (blindfolded), Chardonnay (Bufo), Cabernet Sauvignon (Clip), Zinfandel (Saldo), Merlot (Thorn) and red blend (Derange), the philosophy of “The Prisoner Wine Company” remains unchanged: to work with a family of winemakers in all of California’s best wine regions to create wines of exceptional quality and unexpected character.

Producer Notes: The Prisoner Wine Company

The Prisoner Wine Company is a California-based drinks producer that specializes in creating high-quality, artisanal wines. The company was founded in 2000 by Dave Phinney, a winemaker who had previously worked at Robert Mondavi Winery and Opus One. The company is named after the famous painting by Francisco Goya, which depicts a group of prisoners huddled together in a dark cell.

The Prisoner Wine Company is known for its bold, complex wines that are made using a blend of different grape varieties. The company’s flagship wine is The Prisoner, a red blend that is made using Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Charbono grapes. The wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, which gives it a rich, smoky flavor.

In addition to The Prisoner, The Prisoner Wine Company also produces a number of other wines that are highly regarded by wine enthusiasts. These include Blindfold, a white blend that is made using Chardonnay, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Chenin Blanc grapes; Cuttings, a red blend that is made using Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Syrah grapes; and Saldo, a Zinfandel-based wine that is known for its bold, fruity flavor.

The Prisoner Wine Company is committed to using sustainable farming practices and minimizing its impact on the environment. The company sources its grapes from a number of different vineyards throughout California, and works closely with its growers to ensure that the grapes are of the highest quality. The company also uses a number of different techniques to reduce its water usage and energy consumption, including drip irrigation and solar power.

Overall, The Prisoner Wine Company is a highly respected drinks producer that is known for its innovative approach to winemaking and commitment to sustainability. Over the past decade, The Prisoner has become a wine icon. From its label, its story, and ultra-rich profile, this wine has gained legions of fans. The 2018 vintage is solid as the wine as ever been. TASTING NOTES: This wine packs a load and never lets up. Enjoy its powerful black fruit aromas and flavors with grilled red meat dishes accented with a few fiery spices.
