The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 is a smoking effort from this team. Revealing a deep purple color and stunning notes of blackcurrants and black raspberries like fruit, it offers loads of spice, cedar and dried flower nuances, full-bodied richness, a ripe, full-bodied, majestic texture, beautiful tannin quality, and a great finish. This sensational 2014 has a rare mix of power and elegance and will keep for 20-25 years.

The 2014s are not yet in bottle. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cask 23 Estate-Grown is a big-time winner with great fruit, terrific texture, full body, sensational purity and plenty of blue and black fruits interwoven. The amazing thing about all of these wines is that no oak shows through whatsoever, although I suspect the percentage of new oak is relatively high. That’s an example of the extravagance and richness of the fruit that the winery is achieving. Again, purity, harmony, complexity and individuality are hallmarks of these wines. Drink this 2014 Cask 23 over the next 25 years. Barrel Sample: 94-96

Winemaker Marcus Notaro blends this wine from two adjacent estate-owned vineyards farmed by Kirk Grace. Fay, with its alluvial soils, provides 44 percent of the blend in 2014; the balance comes from S.L.V., where the vines rise higher up the eastern bench of Stag’s Leap, rooted in the crush of volcanic rock that has washed down off the palisades. They combine in a cabernet with cool richness, layering fruit notes of chocolate and wild mushrooms with a rush of satiny fruit tannins. There are no barriers to obscure the wine’s youthful integration or its complexity, still incipient, but there in the breath for minutes, compellingly fresh and satiating in its savor.

Glorious aromas of blacberries and blackcurrants follow through to a full body, ultra-fine tannins and an alluring finish. It shows such polish and verve. Try it in 2020, but it's already a show to taste. Shows the pedigree.

Discover Cabernet Sauvignon Wines

Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine grape variety from the vitis vinifera grape plant species. It is the world's most commonly planted red wine grape variety, and its wines have lately been rated as the most sought-after in the world. When vinified properly, it may produce a full-bodied, complex, fruit-forward, and dry wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon grape owes most of its fame to its origins in the Bordeaux area of France. Traditionally, these wines have a strong crimson and black fruit flavor with a pronounced tannic component.

Because of its flavor profile and simplicity of production, Cabernet Sauvignon is a popular grape type among wine consumers and vintners both. The vines are very resilient, adapting to a wide range of temperatures and terroirs. They grow grapes with thick skins that are resistant to harsh conditions such as frost and hail.

Cabernet Sauvignon has large yields, which is a major plus for winemakers since it is one of the most popular red wines in the world.

About the Producer: Stags' Leap Winery

Stags' Leap Winery is located seven miles (11 km) north of Napa in the Stags Leap AVA area. It is located on a large estate with 36 hectares (90 acres) of vineyards. Planted classic Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grape varieties. The estate's fruits are used in conjunction with some of the best producers in Napa Valley and Carneros. Grapes have been grown continuously on Stag Leap lands since the 1880s. The mansion itself was founded in 1893 and in 1920 a mansion called "Deer jump" was built. The estate's vineyards are planted with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Syrah. Vineyard Ne Cede Malis - which translates to "Don't give in to failure" - is a historic 1930s vineyard where field blends are grown. It mainly contains Petite Sirah mixed with Rhône varieties in a pack. The winery replants the vine as each vine becomes too old, replacing each vine with identical genetic material to maintain the historic integrity of the mixed field mix. as well as Chardonnay and Viognier. Rosé wine is also made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The portfolio includes varieties and batches, as well as selected wines from a vineyard and a barrel.
