Lightly sparkling and quite pleasing, the Riondo Prosecco drinks delicately and smooth. The wine's softness makes it a delicious treat as an aperitif. (Tasted: April 14, 2017, San Francisco, CA)
About the Producer: Cantine Riondo
Cantine Riondo is an Italian wine producer based in the northeast region of Veneto. It is made up of more than 2,400 growers who cultivate more than 6,000 hectares (15,000 acres) of vines. The diverse portfolio includes regional Venetian wines such as Prosecco, Valpolicella, Amarone and Soave. The company was founded in 2008 and today cultivates around 15 percent of all Veneto's vineyards. The dominant white grapes grown in these vineyards are Glera, Pinot Grigio, Garganega and Chardonnay, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Corvina stand out as the most common red grapes. After harvesting, the fruits are sent to one of the six production units for processing and winemaking. The varieties are vinified separately in one of the 2000 fermentation vats and aged in various ways. The wines are then bottled under one of the company's five main brands: Riondo, Casa Burti, Casa Lunardi, Castelforte and i-Riondo. Riondo is the company's flagship brand and takes its name from the neighboring Monte Riondo. This range is mainly dedicated to sparkling wines with DOC classification, made according to the Charmat method, as well as to various varietal wines. Sparkling wines are also produced for the Casa Burti label, which bears the name of the Burti family that founded the company. The most iconic wines from Veneto are part of the Castelforte brand - Valpolicella Superiore, Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone della Valpolicella and Soave. Casa Lunardi also specializes in still wines, including Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals. Cantine Riondo also produces a portfolio of flavored wine and sparkling wine cocktails under the i-Riondo brand.
