Producer Notes: Prospero Tequila
Prospero Tequila is a premium tequila producer based in the town of Arandas, located in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The company was founded in 2016 by a group of tequila enthusiasts who wanted to create a high-quality tequila that would showcase the unique flavors and aromas of the agave plant.
Prospero Tequila is made using only the finest blue Weber agave plants, which are grown in the rich red soil of the Jalisco highlands. The agave is harvested by hand and cooked in traditional brick ovens, which gives the tequila its distinctive flavor profile. After cooking, the agave is crushed and the juice is fermented using natural yeasts. The fermented juice is then distilled twice in copper pot stills, which helps to preserve the natural flavors and aromas of the agave.
Prospero Tequila offers a range of tequilas, including Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo. The Blanco is unaged and has a crisp, clean flavor with notes of citrus and pepper. The Reposado is aged for six months in American oak barrels, which gives it a smooth, mellow flavor with hints of vanilla and caramel. The Añejo is aged for 18 months in American oak barrels, which gives it a rich, complex flavor with notes of chocolate and coffee.
In addition to their tequilas, Prospero also produces a range of other spirits, including mezcal, gin, and rum. Their mezcal is made using the same traditional methods as their tequila, but with a different type of agave plant. The gin is made using a blend of botanicals, including juniper, coriander, and citrus peel, and has a crisp, refreshing flavor. The rum is made using molasses and is aged in oak barrels, which gives it a smooth, rich flavor with notes of caramel and vanilla.
Overall, Prospero Tequila is a premium tequila producer that is dedicated to creating high-quality spirits that showcase the unique flavors and aromas of the agave plant. Their range of tequilas and other spirits are sure to please even the most discerning of drinkers.

Tequila is a distilled spirit made primarily from the blue agave plant (Agave tequilana), predominantly produced in the Jalisco region of Mexico, along with some areas in Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. This unique spirit undergoes a meticulous distillation process, typically involving double distillation in pot stills or column stills. Tequila is categorized into several types based on its aging process: Blanco (unaged or aged less than 2 months), Reposado (aged between 2 months and 1 year), Añejo (aged between 1 and 3 years), and Extra Añejo (aged over 3 years). Each type offers distinct flavor profiles ranging from fresh and herbal to rich and complex.
The flavor and aroma of tequila vary significantly across its categories. Blanco tequilas are known for their crisp texture with fresh citrus notes, peppery hints, and agave sweetness. Reposado tequilas present a softer profile with vanilla and caramel undertones derived from oak aging. Añejo varieties boast richer flavors such as chocolate, coffee, and dried fruit alongside pronounced oak influence. Extra Añejo tequilas deliver complex layers of deep wood characteristics combined with smoothness. Tequila is versatile in cocktails; it serves as the base for popular drinks like Margaritas, Tequila Sunrises, Palomas, and various craft cocktails that highlight agave spirits.
