Montes is a major wine producer in Chile, exporting wines to over 100 countries around the world. The company produces a wide range of wines from classic Chilean grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay. Purple Angel, a wine from the Colchagua Valley dominated by Carmenere, is Montes' flagship and one of Chile's most famous wines. Montes was founded in 1987 by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray with the aim of producing high quality Chilean wines. Today, the company's vineyards extend across the country, from Aconcagua and the Casablanca Valley, in the north, to Apalta, in the south. They are managed with minimal irrigation to fortify the vines, and gathering vegetables helps concentrate the fruit. Vineyards are harvested in the late afternoon or early morning to preserve the freshness of the grapes. Apalta has a state-of-the-art 2.3 million liter winery that produces many of the best wines in Montes. and did. In addition to Purple Angel, Apalta's steeper and higher vineyard slopes produce grapes for Folly Syrah, a concentrated and aged red wine. They also make the Alpha M Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Taita is the newest addition to Montes' iconic wines, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon from a Marquigue estate. Montes also offers a wide selection of wines for daily use. The Alpha and Classic series are focused on varietal wines from Chile's most famous grape varieties, while the Outer Limits series focuses on wines from more extreme regions.
