The drinking of Pinot Noir wines may be traced back to the first century, when the ancient Romans reported doing so shortly after conquering most of the Gaul area, which is now France. About the Producer: MacMurray Estate Vineyards

MacMurray Estate Vineyards is a Sonoma-based wine producer known for making Pinot Noir one of California's most respected cold-climate wine regions, including Russian River Valley and the Santa Lucia Highlands. The property has 607 hectares (1,500 acres) planted on 115 hectares (284 acres) of the Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris varieties. It was originally a farm in the 1850s, and from 1941 to 1996, famous Hollywood actor Fred McMurray lived here. McMurray Ranch was acquired by the Gallo wine family and converted to vineyards, although the property remains closely associated with Fred's winery. daughter, Kate McMurray. MacMurray produces a wide range of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines from the property's Russian River Valley vineyards, including Del Rio Vineyard, Rancho Laguna Vineyard and Tu Roc Vineyard. In the Santa Lucia Highlands, McMurray's Olson Ranch Vineyard covers over 158 hectares (390 acres) and is planted with 15 different Pinot Noir clones. The wines contain varying amounts of French oak depending on the vineyard and grape variety.
