Discover Pinot Grigio Wines
Pinot Grigio is a white wine grape variety with grey, white red, or purple skins. (Thus the French word 'gris,' meaning 'gray.') Because the Pinot Grigio and Gris grapes are considered to be genetically fragile, color constancy is not a strong point (as seen in the photo below by Navarro Vineyards).
Pinot Grigio wines that are more ripe tend to have more tropical and tree fruit tastes, while grapes that are less mature have more pronounced citrus fruit notes. Almost all Pinot Grigio is produced as a dry white wine with a light to medium body. The finest Pinot Grigio wines are crisp, refreshing, and well balanced overall, with mild acidity and rich fruit flavors, regardless of the body.
Some varieties may have more acidity than others, depending on quality and manufacturing techniques. Especially in wine-growing areas with a cold environment.
Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape variety, but the Italian name is Pinot Grigio and the French designation is Pinot Gris.
Italian Pinot Grigio is known for its citrus and tree fruit tastes, while French Pinot Grigio is known for its tropical fruit aromas. This is dependent on a number of variables, including terroir, harvest period, and vinification styles.
About the Producer: Livio Felluga
Livio Felluga is an Italian property located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea. The property is named after its founder, Livio Felluga, who came to the region in the 1930s. Today it is known for its white blended wines, made from some of the region's most cultivated whites, including Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc. The Livio Felluga family has a wine history stretching back five generations on the island of Istria, Slovenia. He bought his first acres of vineyards in Rosazzo in the 1950s and immediately set to work to restore and replant old vineyards. Livio Felluga later acquired a winery in Brazzano to expand wine production. Today, the property spans over 160 hectares (395 acres) of hills at Collio Goriziano and Colli Oriental del Friuli. The estate of Livio Felluga also includes the cellars and vineyards of the historic Abadia de Rosazzo (Abadia de Rosazzo), where a peculiar blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla - Abbazia di Rosazzo white wines is created. The white wine portfolio of Abbazia di Rosazzo, Livio Felluga, includes a range of internationally recognized varietal wines such as Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, as well as several renowned regional grape varieties, from Picolita to Friulano. These local white grapes are also found in a carefully selected range of blended white wines. Although most of Livio Felluga's wines are white, the estate is dedicated to creating a select collection of red wines, such as a blend of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Merlot and Pignolo, grown predominantly in the vineyard on the Sosso estate.
