Scotch whiskey, a distinguished spirit originating from Scotland, is primarily made from malted barley for single malts and grains for blended varieties. This iconic drink undergoes a meticulous distillation process using pot stills for single malts and column stills for grain whiskies, followed by an aging period of at least three years in oak casks, often previously used for bourbon or sherry. The result is a diverse range of flavors and aromas that reflect the unique characteristics of its regions of origin.
Single malt Scotch typically boasts rich and complex flavors with notes of fruit, spice, smoke, peat, and oak, while blended Scotch offers a smoother profile with balanced hints of caramel, vanilla, and light smoke. The texture can vary significantlyāfrom smooth and creamy to rich and oilyādepending on the style. Scotch whiskey is versatile in its consumption; it can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks and serves as a key ingredient in classic cocktails like the Rob Roy or Blood & Sand.
My first drink of Johnnie Walker. For blended whisky, not terrible. This cost me about $75 USD. Good value, especially considering that this Jonnie Walker 18 years old is half my age. Except for weekends, I’ll be drinking this JW 18 every night before bed. My weekend pick is still either Yamazaki 12 or Hibiki MS or Hakushu 12:)

Just a wonderful whiskey for the price. The barrel’s wood may be tasted. I agree with the commenter who said Blue Label, which costs 2.5 times as much, is not a cheaper alternative.

Very blah; the same money would be better spent on a single malt. If you adore JW, keep going. You are competent in your field. Blend aficionados, while not particularly noteworthy, will always give you extra points if you serve this to someone who doesn’t prefer single malts. Blend lovers should continue reading elsewhere. Seriously. It’s not worthwhile. Glenlivet or anything, please.

This is the drink I like to have at night. Prices are a little high for a weekly dram, but the flavors are good to me. Since I live in California, I like my blends to be cool. Johnny Walker 18 years is dependable if you want your blends chilled.
