Discover Freixenet Asti DOCG:

Freixenet Asti DOCG is a delightful sparkling wine that originates from the Asti region in Piedmont, Italy. It is renowned for its exceptional quality, fruity flavors, and effervescence. As a DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) wine, it adheres to strict production regulations, ensuring its authenticity and superior characteristics.

The primary grape variety used in the production of Freixenet Asti DOCG is Moscato Bianco, also known as Muscat Blanc Ă  Petits Grains. This grape variety is celebrated for its aromatic nature and the distinctive fruity and floral notes it imparts to the wine. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to capture their natural sweetness and aromatic potential.

The winemaking process begins with the gentle pressing of the Moscato Bianco grapes to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve the delicate aromas and flavors. During fermentation, the carbon dioxide produced is trapped, creating the wine’s characteristic effervescence. Unlike traditional sparkling wines, Freixenet Asti DOCG undergoes a single fermentation, making it a semi-sparkling wine with a softer bubble profile.

One of the most striking features of Freixenet Asti DOCG is its aromatic bouquet. It releases intense and seductive aromas of ripe peaches, exotic fruits like pineapple and mango, and fragrant flowers such as orange blossom and jasmine. These enticing scents make it a pleasure to experience even before the first sip.

When poured into a glass, Freixenet Asti DOCG reveals a beautiful pale straw color with a slight greenish tinge. The wine showcases a delicate effervescence, forming a persistent and lively stream of tiny bubbles that rise to the surface, creating an elegant visual display.

Producer Notes: Freixenet

Freixenet is a renowned drinks producer specializing in sparkling wines, particularly cava. The brand originates from Sant SadurnĂ d’Anoia, a small town located in the heart of the Penedès region in Catalonia, Spain. With a rich winemaking heritage spanning over a century, Freixenet has become synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and the art of creating sparkling wines.

The story of Freixenet began in 1861 when the Sala family established Casa Sala, a winery dedicated to producing still wines. However, it was in the early 20th century when the company shifted its focus to sparkling wines under the guidance of Pedro Ferrer Bosch and his wife Dolores Sala Vivé. They brought innovation and expertise to the production of cava, a Spanish sparkling wine made using the traditional method.

Freixenet’s flagship product is its classic Cordon Negro Cava. This iconic black bottle with its distinctive black and gold label has become an internationally recognized symbol of quality sparkling wine. Cordon Negro Cava is made from a blend of traditional grape varieties, including Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada, resulting in a crisp, refreshing, and well-balanced sparkling wine.

In addition to Cordon Negro, Freixenet produces a wide range of sparkling wines tailored to different tastes and preferences. Freixenet Reserva Real is an ultra-premium cava crafted from hand-selected grapes and aged for a minimum of 30 months, offering a complex and luxurious experience. Another notable offering is Elyssia, a collection of sparkling wines that showcase the brand’s innovative spirit through unique blends and modern packaging.

Beyond cava, Freixenet has expanded its portfolio to include other sparkling wines and beverages. Freixenet Italian Rosé is a popular sparkling wine made in collaboration with Italian winemakers, combining Spanish winemaking expertise with Italian grape varieties.
