Discover Fladgate Late Bottled Porto:

Discover this Fladgate Late Bottled Porto and get it delivered to your door. Late Bottled Vintage, or LBV, is the most popular premium Port style in both England and Canada, accounting for one out of every five Port purchases in the United Kingdom and more than a quarter of all Port consumed in Canada. Vintage Port and LBV both offer a single-year selection of very outstanding full-bodied red ports. The primary distinction between the two styles is how they are matured. Vintage Port is aged on wood for only around twenty months before being transferred to a bottle to mature further. Late Bottled Vintage is, as the name implies, bottled later and aged in wood for four to six years. An LBV matures and settles down throughout this unusually long time of wood ageing; it is ready to drink when bottled, does not need to be decanted, and can be served by the glass for several weeks after the cork is pulled. LBV was created as a high-quality, but more inexpensive and drinkable, alternative to Vintage port, to be consumed by the glass on a daily basis. Taylor’s current Chairman, Alistair Robertson, initially introduced it in 1970 with the Late Bottled Vintage 1965. Despite the fact that many other wineries now produce this great style of wine, Taylor’s LBV – the original Late Bottled Vintage – remains the gold standard in the category, and the first choice of the discerning Port consumer. The color is deep crimson. Fresh, robust blackberry and cherry aromas are combined with subtle notes of licorice and spice in this beautiful and stylish nose. On the palate, robust but well-integrated tannins enhance the deep and intense black berry flavor. The wine has remarkable balance and refinement, which is typical of Taylor’s approach.

Producer Notes: Fladgate Partnership

Fonseca, on the other hand, is known for its elegant and complex ports that are made from the finest grapes. Croft is the smallest of the three port houses and is known for its lighter, fruitier ports that are perfect for drinking on their own or as an accompaniment to food.

In addition to their famous ports, the Fladgate Partnership also produces a range of other wines, including red and white table wines. These wines are made from grapes grown in the Douro Valley, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious wine regions in the world. Porto: Origins, Flavor & Pairing Guide

View All Porto Products →

Porto, commonly known as Port wine, is a fortified wine originating from the Douro Valley in Portugal. It is made primarily from a blend of grapes including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto CĂŁo. The fortification process involves adding grape spirit (aguardente) during fermentation to halt the process and preserve the natural sugars, resulting in a range of sweetness levels from dry styles like Branco to sweeter varieties such as Ruby and Tawny.

The aging methods for Porto vary significantly among its types. Ruby Porto is typically aged in large oak casks for a shorter duration, showcasing rich red fruit flavors like cherry and raspberry with hints of chocolate. In contrast, Tawny Porto undergoes longer aging in smaller barrels that allow for oxidation and evaporation, developing nutty flavors alongside dried fruits and caramel notes. Vintage Porto is aged briefly in cask before being bottled for several years; it offers intense dark fruit flavors with floral and earthy complexities as it matures. Each style pairs beautifully with specific foods—Ruby with dark chocolate desserts or strong cheeses; Tawny with nuts or crème brûlée; Vintage best enjoyed on its own or alongside decadent dishes.

Discover an exceptional bottle of Porto in our store today. Our customers top recommendations include: Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port 1.5L, Warre’s Tawny Port 10Yr 500ml, Taylor Port Black 1.5L, and Croft Reserve Ruby Port.
