Producer Notes: Clase Azul Tequila
Clase Azul Tequila is a premium tequila producer based in the town of Santa Maria Canchesdá in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The company was founded in 1997 by Arturo Lomeli and is known for its high-quality tequilas that are made using traditional methods and aged in oak barrels.
Clase Azul Tequila produces a range of tequilas, including Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and Ultra. Each of these tequilas is made using 100% blue Weber agave, which is grown in the highlands of Jalisco. The agave is harvested by hand and cooked in traditional brick ovens before being crushed to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented using natural yeast before being distilled twice in copper stills.
Once the tequila has been distilled, it is aged in oak barrels for varying lengths of time depending on the type of tequila being produced. The Blanco is unaged, while the Reposado is aged for 8 months, the Añejo for 25 months, and the Ultra for 5 years.
In addition to its tequilas, Clase Azul Tequila also produces a range of other spirits, including Mezcal, Sotol, and Raicilla. Mezcal is a type of agave-based spirit that is similar to tequila but is made using a different type of agave and is typically smokier in flavor. Sotol is a spirit made from the Desert Spoon plant, which is native to northern Mexico. Raicilla is a type of agave-based spirit that is similar to Mezcal but is made using a different type of agave and is typically less smoky in flavor.
Clase Azul Tequila is known for its distinctive handcrafted bottles, which are made by Mexican artisans using traditional techniques. The bottles are decorated with intricate designs and are often used as decorative pieces after the tequila has been consumed.
Overall, Clase Azul Tequila is a premium spirits producer that is known for its high-quality tequilas and other agave-based spirits. The company’s commitment to traditional methods and its focus on quality have helped it to become one of the most respected tequila producers in Mexico and around the world.

Tequila Varieties
First produced in the 16th century, when Spanish conquerors ran out of cognac during their expedition to the New World, tequila is made by distilling the juice from the heart of a blue agave native to Jalisco, Mexico. Tequila comes in a variety of colors, from the transparent and unrestrained, known as Blanco, to the darkest aged in Reposado, Anejo and Extra Anejo vats. Popular as a main ingredient in refreshing margaritas, it is also commonly consumed pure or with the addition of lemon and salt.
