Discover Rosé & Blush Wines
A rosé (from the French, rosé [oze]) is a wine that contains some color from the grape skins but not enough to be classified as a red wine. It's possible that it's the oldest known sort of wine, as it's the easiest to manufacture using the skin contact method. Depending on the grape varietals used and winemaking procedures, the pink color can range from a faint "onionskin" orange to a vibrant near-purple. In French, Portuguese, and English-speaking nations, the wine is usually labeled rosé, rosado in Spanish, or rosato in Italian.
Skin contact, saignée, and blending are the three main methods for making rosé wine. Rosé wines come in a variety of sweetness levels, from severely dry Provençal rosé to sweet White Zinfandels and blushes, and can be made still, semi-sparkling, or sparkling. Rosé wines are manufactured from a range of varietals and are available all over the world.
About the Producer: Chateau Puech-Haut
Château Puech-Haut is a Languedoc winery founded by Gerard Bru in 1981. The castle is located near Montpellier, in the commune of Saint-Dreseri. The dominant grape varieties on the estate are Grenache, Syrah and Carignan for red wines and Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier for whites. The land originally belonged to the Bru family, but was sold until businessman Gerard Bru bought it to build a vineyard. ... Bru's father planted olive trees, which were largely replaced by vines, leaving about 6 hectares (15 acres) of olive trees untouched. It continues to produce olive oil, which is sold on the property. Black truffles also grow in the property's olive plantation. Initially, Château Puech-Haut was just a producer that sold its fruits to wineries, and it was only in 1996 that Bru started making grapes from the fruits of the vineyard. Since then, several distinguished consultants have joined the castle, including Michel Rolland, Claude Gros and Philippe Camby. The most famous wine is Prestige Rouge, a full-bodied blend of Grenache and Syrah from 40-70 year old vines. which is fermented into concrete. However, the cellar offers a wide range of up to 10 red wines, two white wines and three rosé wines. Overall, the property is designed to grow from approximately 200 hectares (500 acres), offering even some of the most renowned French wines in packaging. The property's vineyards are biodynamic, but the fruit also comes from other producers. Château Puech-Haut prides itself on the most complete characterization of its wines, taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate and the hot summers of southern France.
