Discover Amarone Wines

Amarone is a rich and full-bodied red wine that originates from the Veneto region in Italy. It is made using a unique winemaking process that involves drying the grapes before fermentation, resulting in a wine that is high in alcohol, tannins, and flavor. Amarone is often referred to as the "king of Italian wines" and is highly sought after by wine enthusiasts around the world.

The primary grape varieties used in the production of Amarone are Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. These grapes are grown in the Valpolicella region of Veneto, which is known for its hilly terrain and ideal climate for grape cultivation. The grapes are harvested in late September or early October and are then left to dry for several months, typically until January or February. This process, known as appassimento, allows the grapes to concentrate their flavors and sugars, resulting in a wine that is rich and complex.

After the grapes have been dried, they are crushed and fermented for several weeks. The resulting wine is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years, although some Amarones are aged for up to five years or more. The aging process helps to soften the tannins and integrate the flavors, resulting in a wine that is smooth and well-balanced.

There are many famous brands of Amarone, including Allegrini, Masi, and Tommasi. Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a highly regarded wine that is made using a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes. It is aged for 18 months in oak barrels and has a rich, full-bodied flavor with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and spice. Masi Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is another popular brand that is made using a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes. It is aged for 24 months in oak barrels and has a complex flavor profile with notes of cherry, plum, and tobacco.

Amarone is a versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of foods, including red meat, game, and aged cheeses. It is also a great wine to enjoy on its own, as it is rich and flavorful enough to be savored on its own. Amarone is a great choice for special occasions or for those who appreciate a high-quality, full-bodied red wine.

There are many reasons why Amarone is a great drink. Firstly, it is a unique wine that is made using a special winemaking process that results in a wine that is rich and complex. About the Producer: Bertani

Bertani is an Italian wine producer in the northeastern Veneto wine region. The property has two wineries, one in Valpolicella Valpantena and the other in Tenuta Novare, in the epicenter of the wine regions of Amarone and Valpolicella Classico Superiore. Bertani's history dates back to 1857, when brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani founded the original winery in Grezzana, Valpolicella Valpantena. Today, Bertani includes more than 200 hectares of vineyards cultivated in Verona: Lake Garda, Valpolicella Valpantena, Soave and Valpolicella Classico. Valpolicella Valpantena is where Bertani produces his most revered wines - Secco Bertani (Verona IGT), Amarone della Valpolicella. Valpantena DOCG and Recioto della Valpolicella Valpantena DOCG. The new Tenute Novare property, acquired by Bertani in 1957, is located in the middle of a valley in the Valpolicella Classico region and is planted with vines on the slopes of mineral-rich clay and basalt soils. The grapes for the special Amarone wines are dried. naturally without the use of artificial air conditioning. The must is fermented for over 50 days in concrete vats, followed by about six years in Slavic oak barrels and 12 months in bottles. Bertani's white wine portfolio mainly comes from its vineyards in the Lugana and Custoza regions of Lake Garda. as well as the region with the same name, Soave. The vineyards of the Lugano estate are planted with white Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, while the Custoza vines are planted with Garganega, Trebbiano, Cortese and Malvasia vines for the production of Bertani Custoza DOC wine. In Soave, the estate's "raw" Serole vineyard grows Garganega grapes for its vintage Soave and Soave DOC wines.
