Smoky aromas of graphite, road tar and wild berry set up a wiry, full-force palate with a can't-miss beam of tartaric acidity. Blackberry and chocolaty flavors finish forward, with unabashed freshness and drive. Drink through 2019.

About the Producer: Finca Las Moras

Finca Las Moras is a large Argentine winery in San Juan. Its vineyards are located in three sub-regions: the Pedernal, Zonda and Tulum valleys. Many of them are surrounded by mulberry trees, which gave the project its name. The red wines are made from Malbec and Syrah (for which San Juan has a great reputation), Cabernet Sauvignon and Bonarda. White wines are made from Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. A total of 1,100 hectares (2,700 acres) are planted in the various valleys. About 9.5 million liters of wine are produced annually. Given the scale of production, it should come as no surprise that the broader portfolio includes several subsidiary lines. They start with a group of varietal wines, while Dadá and Barrel Select wines emphasize aging in oak. Los Intocables is an unusual variety of wines aged in bourbon barrels. Other sub-brands include Love and Alma Mora, which lead the range of four wines. Cuvée Sagrado el Pedernal and Paz are bottles of Malbec from the Pedernal Valley. Both wines are aged in new French oak. Mora Negra is a Malbec and Bonard blend of vineyards in the Tulum and Pedernal valleys. Aged in new French and American oak for 15 months. Gran Syrah is mined in the Tulum, Zonda and Pedernal valleys and spends 18 months in new French and American barrels.
